Where to watch
Have you ever, on completion of a drama found that you search everywhere for a drama that would just be like the drama you just finished? I believe that A Gentleman’s dignity has become such a favourite that I cannot seem to find any other drama to make me feel exactly how this drama made me feel. It has ruined me >.> and I will never ever find anything like it …T_T Insert appropriate picture: (donnapie)
First a bit more information on the drama. The drama is actually directed by Shin Woo Chul and written by Kim Eun Sook. They are the same people behind dramas such as Secret Garden, City Hall, On Air, Lovers, Lovers in Prague, and Lovers in Paris. It is also Jang Dong-gun’s return to television after twelve years.
This drama was described as the male version of Sex and the city. I was put off with just that description. When something is the something of something you really do not want to watch it. It usually means they are trying too hard and its rubbish. Am not a major fan of Sex and the City either so that was another fail. This resulted in me not watching the drama when it came out. It just made it sound so boring. I left it for quite sometime until a month ago when I had nothing to watch. I decided to give A Gentleman’s dignity a go.
Initially the main characters may not look appealing but trust me the more you watch this drama the more you realise how good looking they actually are. ( Maybe something to do with their acting?) Let me tell you something about Jang Dong-Gun though. This man..you start to fall so quick you wonder how it even happen. He oozes sex appeal ..sigh. It became all very obsessive after this drama….>.> <.<
On to the drama. Like I said before this drama was amazing and it shot right to the top of my favourites. The storyline is actually very different It is more mature and does not contain the element of a classic Korean drama. In other words there is nothing over the top about it and there is not a lot of teen elements that is so popular these days. I suppose this drama is more real then any other drama that I have watched in the past.
I enjoyed the chemistry between the four main actors. They really seemed like good friends. You have Kim Do Jin (Jang Dong Gun) who is an architect and a bit of playboy. He ends up having a crush on a high school teacher, Seo Yi Soo (Kim Ha Neul). These two were really the main part of the storyline. They are the couple that will frustrate you through out the drama. Do jin is a bit of a jerk. He is the kind of character that you can’t help but like even though he is exactly what most girls should try to stay away from. I liked his character change. Usually its the girl that falls for the guy but in this drama it was the guy that fell for the girl. He had a lot of character to start of with and he has a lot of layers. The acting was superb. Every emotion, action and every smile just gave me the right kind of feeling.
Im Tae San is Do jin’s partner. He is blunt and one of the characters that even near the end I did not really like. I felt unlike the other characters he did not have enough depth but that saying I liked seeing his gf Hong Se Ra (Yoon Se Ah) together. Alone he was pretty boring but when he was with her things used to happen.
Next you have the lawyer Choi Yoon (Kim Min Jong). He seems more sensitive then the others and his love interest is Tae San’s much younger sister, Im Me Ah Ri (Yoon Jin Yi). Finally you have Lee Jung Rok (Lee Jong Hyuk) who is married to a very wealthy older women Park Min Sook (Kim Jung Nan). He cheats her all the time and he just irritated me sometimes until maybe the last few episodes. I don’t know he was just really sleazy.
This drama contains a lot of bromance. It’s really nice to see a drama that has four men as the main characters. Also this drama had something more to give each episode. You found out something new about each character and there was a lot of glimpse into the past so it was like in each episode the writer was teasing you a bit. It was also really romantic but not in the usual sense. It was more of an adult romance. They did not just fall in love they all tried to make it work. There is a lot of one sided love in this drama. All four of the characters had an interesting story so you never really got bored with it. They just had a lot of character that built up through out the whole drama. Each had layers that you start to see in every episode. Just an FYI the male’s in this drama are pure alpha. Think obsessive, controlling, jerks who want to have their own way. I liked them :/
On the other side I know many people who have told me that they have found that at the start the drama kind of drags but I honestly really enjoyed it. Also a lot of people disliked the four main characters. They seemed immature for 40 year olds but seriously who ever really acts their age? The character’s are the kind that will appeal to you because it’s amusing to watch them have these problems and sort it out. It is about men that act like children learning that they have to grow up.
Colin from CN blue is also in this drama.
The reason you should watch this drama is pretty simple. It has a really great storyline. The acting is perfect. Super romantic and a lot of comedy.
