Rooftop Prince Review

When Crown Prince Lee Gak is transported 300 years into the future to present day Seoul along with his three retainers, they believe that it is their duty to solve the murder case of the Crown Princess in order to return to Joseon. They land in the rooftop apartment of Park Ha, a cheerful woman in her mid-20s, who eventually believes the odd quartet’s predicament and becomes their guardian.
As Park Ha educates the four on life in the 21st century, Lee Gak comes across Hong Se Na, who seems to be the reincarnation of his wife. Taking on the identity of Yong Tae Yong, Lee Gak slowly begins to unravel the murder of Yong Tae Yong and in turn moves closer to solving the murder case of the Crown Princess. As he finds himself in love with Park Ha, he figures that maybe the Crown Princess was not so perfect after

Where to watch

Lee Min-ho as Song Man-bo
One of the three entourage of Yi Gak. He is very smart and there is nothing that he does not know, but the fact that he is an illegitimate child, his career does not go very far. He has solved murder cases in the past.
Jung Suk-won as Woo Yong-sool
One of the three entourage of Yi Gak. He can be very blunt sometimes but is extremely skilled in fights. He has killed people in the past but only to protect innocent people. He was going to be executed but was then stopped by Yi Gak, where he was asked to be his body guard.
Choi Woo-shik as Do Chi-san
One of the three entourage of Yi Gak. He is very skilled and has a wide social network. There is nothing that he does not know among people, including gossips and secrets within the palace.
Ban Hyo-jung as President Yeo
Lee Moon-shik as Pyo Taek-soo
Ahn Seok-hwan as Yong Dong-man
Song Ok-sook as Gong Man-ok
Park Joon-geum as Yong Seol-hee
Kang Byul as La

One of my favourite dramas of the season, Rooftop Prince is a time travel drama with a mix of historical and comedy. With a fantastic cast and excellent storyline the drama is one that I would recommend to a lot of people.
For many people watching the first episode gives a vague idea of how the rest of the drama is going to be, if it’s going to be good drama or a waste of your time. The writer’s cleverly introduced a mystery right from the start of the drama so that it makes the audience want to watch more and figure out what the conclusion is going to be. The episode can seem pretty serious but as the drama progressed you realise that it is not just serious but also humorous and romantic. I think the best part of this drama is that it gives nothing away. You are kept on the edge and there was never an episode where something dramatic or interesting did not happen.

One problem I did have with this drama was that at certain times they kind of slipped from the main storyline. The main characters forgot their main objective, the solving of the Princess’s murder and the storyline sometimes focused too much on the romance and other unimportant matters when as a viewer I just wanted them to focus on the mystery. Thankfully the ending was not messed up and it really brought the whole drama together

The acting was amazing. I have to admit that I do have a soft spot for Yoochun and he did an amazing job in this drama. He has this kind of charisma that you miss every time you finish any of his dramas. It is like you cannot get enough of him. I just adored his character and you could not help but fall for him. He acting reminds me of Lee Min Ho. He is not just a popular singing idol but a serious actor with actual talent. He is memorable in any of his performances.

Han Ji-min as Park-ha and Bu-yong was just amazing. The thing with her character was that she needed to have no character development. She was a strong character from the start unlike the Prince who seemed headstrong and almost spoilt and changed quite a bit. Park ha character is actually really likeable. She does the right things, works hard and is kind hearted. She shows a strong side but inside she is soft, emotional and I liked how she is not a push over. Yoochun and Han Ji Min’s chemistry was strong. I liked how she changed Yoochun’s character into a more likable and less annoying character.

The two main antagonist’s in this drama were Hong Se-na / Hwa-yong who was played by Jung Yoo-mi and Yong Tae-Mu /Moo chang played by Tae Sung. They were perfect. I hated them and that is how you know an actor or actress is good. When they play a character so well that every time they come on screen you wish they would die >_ Now my three most favourite characters had to be Man Bo, Chi San, and Yong Seol played by Lee Min-ho , Jung Suk-won and Choi Woo-shik. When the drama got too serious they were there with their humorous lines and really made the dramas more fun to watch. I was sad that they did not get their own storyline a little bit more. Cutting out a bit of Se Na and Tae Mu and adding a bit more story for these three would have been amazing. It was weird but one of Park Ha’s friend Becky had potential with Man Bo. Her friends kind of just vanished near the end.

Spoiler below due to the fact that I give my view on the ending, Do not read unless you want the drama spoilt for you 

My favourite line has to be the final line. Lee Gak: Why are you so late? I waited for you from a long time ago. Park Ha: Where were you? I was here all this time. Ending really made me cry but it ended well and they did not rush it and for that I will always love this dramas as many writers always spoil dramas. I liked the animation that randomly popped up in the episodes. Was cute. Also the drama has a good OST.

Watch this drama if you like romance, humour, time travel, good acting and a good storyline emotional scenes with only a few cheesy moments. Other dramas like this would be You’re beautiful and Sungkyunkwan Scandal
